SAN ANTONIO’S ORGANIZATION FOR THE EDUCATION & PROMOTION OF BEADWORK
San Antonio Bead Society (SABS), where beads are more than just objects with a hole.
Who We Are
Whoe We Are
We are a non-profit organization that meets monthly and promotes learning about all aspects of beadwork.
What We Do
What We Do
Promoting and encouraging interest in beadworking and related fields through social and educational programs available to its members and to the general public.
Membership is open to all who share our interest in this enchanting art.
Monthly meetings are held on the second Wednesday of every month at the San Antonio Garden Center. The center opens at 5:00pm for beading, fellowship, vending and fun with the business meeting beginning at 6:45pm. This is followed by a mini-teach (most months) where a member or guest will provide instructions and kits on a beading project. All members are encouraged to attend and bring ideas and constructive criticism.
Projects are varied between bead weaving, wire work, mixed media, leatherwork and anything we can come up with! Members are subsidized a $5 coupon per mini-teach so the cost is anywhere from free to up to $15 dollars, depending on the kit. At 8:30pm we are required to vacate the building but many members continue on socializing with a late supper and more visiting. It’s a nice way of winding down after the meeting!
Our Annual Events and Functions
We have an annual bazaar and other philanthropic events where members may participate with donations of time and items for silent auctions. Members are encouraged to bring ideas and causes to support to the attention of the society. SABS is always looking for new ways to promote purpose of education, history and creative enjoyment of beads.
